If it were possible to burn boiling water, I could have done it. And if it wasn’t a pizza bagel or boxed macaroni and cheese, I wasn’t eating it. But somehow, somewhere along the line I developed an interest in the source of our food and the effect diet has on our overall health and well-being. I became a vegetarian (for more reasons than just diet) and took a real interest in cooking and preparing homemade meals with locally sourced fresh ingredients. While vegetarianism is the right choice for me, I recognize that it isn’t necessarily for everyone. My family alone includes vegetarians, pescatarians, vegans, meat lovers, meat dabblers, and everything in between. So how do you feed these different diets without adding extra work for the cook?
I am certainly not a master chef, but I have managed to put together some recipes (vegetarian and carnivore approved!) that will satisfy the different diets in your family with minimal hassle. I try to keep good nutrition the main focus of my recipes, but I certainly will not deny myself the occasional cupcake or big bowl of pasta! I believe the key is balance and portion control. My cooking philosophy is simple: fresh local ingredients are best, homemade should always be easy and stress-free, and there is always room for dessert!
